1:3 - "Ram" - Greek Aram; also verse 4
1:7 - "Asaph" - Asaph is probably an alternate spelling for Asa; some manuscripts read Asa; also verse 8
1:10 - "Amos" - Amos is probably an alternate spelling for Amon; some manuscripts read Amon; twice in this verse
1:12 - "Shealtiel" - Greek Salathiel; twice in this verse
1:18 - "of Jesus Christ" - Some manuscripts of the Christ
1:18 - "betrothed" - That is, legally pledged to be married

2:1 - "wise men" - Greek magi; also verses 7, 16
2:2 - "when it rose" - Or in the east; also verse 9

3:3 - "crying in the wilderness" - Or crying: Prepare in the wilderness
3:16 - "opened to him" - Some manuscripts omit to him
3:17 - "my beloved Son" - Or my Son, my (or the) Beloved

5:9 - "sons" - Greek huioi; see preface
5:22 - "angry with his brother" - Some manuscripts insert without cause
5:22 - "insults" - Greek says Raca to (a term of abuse)
5:22 - "hell" - Greek Gehenna; also verses 29, 30
5:26 - "penny" - Greek kodrantes, Roman copper coin (Latin quadrans) worth about 1/64 of a denarius (which was a day's wage for a laborer)
5:37 - "evil" - Or the evil one
5:40 - "tunic" - Greek chiton, a long garment worn under the cloak next to the skin
5:47 - "brothers" - Or brothers and sisters. The plural Greek word adelphoi (translated "brothers") refers to siblings in a family. In New Testament usage, depending on the context, adelphoi may refer either to brothers or to brothers and sisters

6:9 - "hallowed be your name" - Or Let your name be kept holy, or Let your name be treated with reverence
6:10 - "Your kingdom... done" - Or Let your kingdom come, let your will be done
6:11 - "our daily bread" - Or our bread for tomorrow
6:13 - "evil" - Or the evil one; some manuscripts add For yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory, forever. Amen
6:19 - "rust" - Or worm; also verse 20
6:24 - "money" - Greek mammon, a Semitic word for money or possessions
6:27 - "a single hour to his span of life" - Or a single cubit to his stature; a cubit was about 18 inches or 45 centimeters

7:13 - "the way is easy" - Some manuscripts for the way is wide and easy

8:2 - "leper" - Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13
8:3 - "Jesus" - Greek he
8:9 - "servant" - Greek bondservant
8:10 - "no one in Israel" - Some manuscripts not even in Israel
8:28 - "Gadarenes" - Some manuscripts Gergesenes; some Gerasenes
8:28 - "demon-possessed" - Greek daimonizomai; also verse 33; elsewhere rendered oppressed by demons

9:4 - "knowing" - Some manuscripts perceiving
9:10 - "Jesus" - Greek he
9:14 - "the Pharisees fast" - Some manuscripts add much, or often
9:22 - "instantly" - Greek from that hour

10:3 - "Thaddaeus" - Some manuscripts Lebbaeus, or Lebbaeus called Thaddaeus
10:8 - "lepers" - Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13
10:10 - "tunics" - Greek chiton, a long garment worn under the cloak next to the skin
10:24 - "servant" - Greek bondservant; also verse 25
10:25 - "will they malign" - Greek lacks will they malign
10:28 - "hell" - Greek Gehenna
10:29 - "penny" - Greek assarion, Roman copper coin (Latin quadrans) worth about 1/16 of a denarius (which was a day's wage for a laborer)

11:5 - "lepers" - Leprosy was a term for several skin diseases; see Leviticus 13
11:8 - "What... A man" - Or Why then did you go out? To see a man ...
11:9 - "What... A prophet?" - Some manuscripts Why then did you go out? To see a prophet?
11:12 - "has suffered violence" - Or has been coming violently
11:15 - "ears to hear" - Some manuscripts omit to hear
11:19 - "deeds" - Some manuscripts children (compare Luke 7:35)
11:26 - "for such was your gracious will" - Or for so it pleased you well
